About

Zzyzxcafe (“zy-zix”) – pronounced with a long I in the first syllable & a short I in the second.
Nestled under the 101 freeway and across from the Metrolink train station in Camarillo ZZYZX Cafe provides a new and refreshing take on the casual breakfast and lunch cafe. Furnished with an urban chic style and walls adorned with abstract art ZZYZX Cafe offers our guests with artfully prepared dishes, like our signature Captain Crunch french toast, served on modern geometrically shaped platters. As Camarillo’s first modern style cafe we’re dedicated to providing as unique of an experience as our name. You won’t find rooster or hen memorabilia nor short-order style fried eggs here. Nope, instead you’ll encounter quality meals prepared with the freshest ingredients, sure to please even the most discerning of tastes. At ZZYZX Cafe the food looks as good as it tastes!
But hey, don’t take our word for it…Try it for yourself. You’ll be glad you did.
About the Owner
After cooking up ideas from 12 years experience in restaurant and hotel management, Brian Fry, an east coast transplant, finally decided that it was time to dish it out on his own. Armed with his wife, Mei-Ling, who is an HR professional from Santa Barbara, Brian’s goal was to create a restaurant with casual but contemporary ambiance…offering a more ecletric menu than your ordinary breakfast house.
“Food should look as good as it tastes…whether it’s breakfast, lunch or dinner.” At ZZYZX Café, this mantra is our raison d’etre, where all our dishes are served with imaginative flair and style.
Where the name came from
Zzyzx (pronounced zye-zix), is a desert oasis along the historic Mojave Road. Since 1976 Zzyzx has been home to the Desert Studies Center which is jointly owned by the National Park System and California State University system. The area is rich with evidence of prehistoric and historic activity, as well as being a lush habitat for a variety of desert reptiles and mammals. Zzyzx is located off I-15 about 12 miles southeast of Baker, CA. You’ll often encounter Zzyzx along your drive between Los Angeles and Las Vegas.
